After giving it quite a bit of thought I realized I really needed to get my bathroom better equipped for towels. All we have at the moment is a double towel rail near the tub, and that looks old, plus a single towel bar which I snapped up in a sale a few years ago. They make what’s a nice bathroom look a bit tatty and jaded so I am looking for a new highly polished chrome towel ladder. In fact I am also thinking about a wall mounted towel warmer; it would be really nice to have warm dry towels to hand after a shower or soak in the bathtub.

Another idea I have is to store all my new towels and a few old towels in the bathroom when they are not in use. That would be so convenient, a bathroom linen cabinet instead of all the towels taking up so much space in the bedroom closet.

I must say I do like towel ladders as a style of towel rack. It would be great if I could afford a heated towel warmer in that style. It would fit snug to the wall and when I get out of the tub I would feel as snug as a bug in a rug wrapped up in a lovely warm towel.

I had never taken much notice until our bathroom started to irritate me. The first great idea I came across was over toilet storage. My reaction was “why on earth did I not think of that before.” There’s all that vacant space above the toilet with floorspace already occupied by the toilet, so what a brilliant idea. But how best to use that above the toilet space?

One thing I soon found was the different names that over toilet storage units  were given. Commonly they are called bathroom spacesavers for very obvious reasons and exactly why I was interested in them. You might also find them called an over the toilet cabinet or even have a French touch and be called on etagere. But whatever you call them they do the same thing: store whatever you want above the toilet.

You can buy these spacesavers made of metal such as stainless steel and chrome, or different types of wood or wood composites. If you like traditional furniture then a solid would space saver is an option; if you like ultra modern then the metal products will likely suit you. Whatever you favor you will be glad to know your bathroom storage irritation may soon be over.

Canister filters are mainly used in the larger tanks, usually tanks in the 30 to 50 gallon range. The reason for this is the high rate of filtration this type of filter provides. They do need a little more attention as far as maintenance compared to the power filters. Another consideration is placement. These filters are external, meaning placed outside of the tank. They need an area designated for their placement that is easy to access for the required cleaning and maintenance. Each brand has its own features and the prices range according to size and design.

One of the more popular types of fish tank filters is the power filter. It is the filter of choice for many home aquariums. A few reasons for the popularity of this type of filter are; they are easy to install in your tank, the maintenance is easily performed, even by a novice, and they are relatively inexpensive. They are also very efficient on tanks up to 55 gallons in size. Since they hang from the side of the tank they are easily managed and take up minimal space. The power filters generally use chemical and mechanical filtration to clean the water. Although certain brands do contain a sponge medium that will add biological filtration. As with any filter the price range is dependant on the model, size, and features. Power filters can be used with both fresh and saltwater tanks.

The filtration system is the heart of your tank. When possible, choose the larger fish tank filters recommended for the size of your tank. A filter that cannot filter the wastes from the tank will not make for a healthy environment for the fish. Comparing the needs of the aquarium with the features of a filter will guarantee that your tank gives you years of service and enjoyment.
